The Direct Vision Standard requires all heavy goods vehicles operating in Greater London to have a Progressive Safe System Kit installed from 28th October 2024.

Every HGV entering or operating in Greater London is required to hold a valid HGV safety permit. All HGV’s over 12 Tonnes will need to hold at least a three star rating, if they DO NOT then they will now need to install extra safety equipment. If they do not then they cannot get a new HGV Safety Permit and will be penalised with daily fines of up to £550.

The Progressive Safe System is designed to increase driver visibility for vulnerable road users (VRU’s) in blind spots and minimise false alerts. This is to ultimately create a safer environment for all road users and minimise potential accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists.

What the Progressive Safe System entails;

  • A blind spot information system must be installed on the nearside of the vehicle
  • A moving-off information system must be installed at the front of the vehicle

For further information on the new regulation visit Direct Vision Standard and HGV Safety Permit Scheme – Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

Please note, FleetFinders can support on the installation of the safety system required for any HGV vehicle purchased. So don’t hesitate to get in touch if you require more information or a quote for installation.
